City of Tulia Police Department Deploys Axon Flex On-Officer Cameras

The Tulia Police Department announces the deployment of equipment purchased from TASER International, Inc. The purchase of 6 new AXON™ Flex™ on-officer cameras, with full service EVIDENCE.com management solution including software maintenance, hardware warranties and updates.

“The TASER AXON Flex On-Officer camera is a head-mounted camera worn by the officer to enhance officer safety, evidence integrity and community relations,” according to Assistant Chief Jason Jack. “The equipment will provide an unbiased account of situations where officer and citizen accounts of events diverge. This results in better behavior on both sides of the badge. This promises significant benefits in terms of officer and public well-being, not to mention a substantial monetary savings associated with our increasingly litigious society.”

The AXON Flex on-officer cameras are an excellent investment. Returns include cost savings from dismissed meritless complaints, quicker adjudication, expedited pleas, and IT efficiencies associated with the EVIDENCE.com cloud storage solution. U.S. law enforcement spends approximately $2 billion in settlements each year to resolve claims.

When an officer activates the camera it automatically captures video of the 30 seconds immediately preceding activation. This buffer function creates a “cushion” which captures the critical half-minute before the camera is activated. On-officer cameras are a substantial improvement over dashboard and other mounted devices that do not adequately capture the officer’s point of view.

EVIDENCE.com cloud storage solution securely collects, manages and protects audio/visual evidence without straining local resources. The automated uploading that is conducted at the end of a shift results in evidence that is tamper-proof at all points.

“We are thrilled that the Tulia Police Department is upgrading to our most advanced solution for protecting truth as well as life,” said Rick Smith, Founder and CEO of Taser International. “Deploying AXON Flex cameras with our EVIDENCE.com back-end solution places Tulia among the most forward thinking agencies in the country. A continuing study from the University of Cambridge has already found that AXON Flex reduces use-of-force and citizen complaints. We expect to see similar results in Tulia and other markets, as on-officer cameras become an essential, fair and common sense standard for modern law enforcement,” concluded Smith.
